Sergo Grigorian
Sergo Grigorian, PhD– (Russian:Серго Григорян), (born in Moscow, 15 January 1961) is a lawyer, art collector and devotee of Soviet history and culture.
== The Sergo Grigorian Collection ==
Sergo Grigorian is best known for his collection of Soviet Political Propaganda Posters (The Sergo Grigorian Collection 〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://redavantgarde.com/en/ )〕), which he has meticulously constructed over 15 years. The collection boasts over 2000 Soviet posters or “communist posters” as they are known in the West. The time frame of the collection spans the whole Soviet era, from February 1917 to December 1991, when the Soviet Union ceased to exist. This historical period of Russia attracts a lot of interest as an experiment to build a fair and equitable society. The Soviet communist poster has shown a successful past application of visual propaganda in political strife. The primary focus of the collection is on political propaganda, hence such famous categories as cinema, theatre, circus, sports and advertisement have been deliberately missed out unless they have a clear underlying political meaning. Apart from the vast collection of posters, Sergo Grigorian is also collecting the literature about Soviet graphics and poster art.
The Sergo Grigorian Collection is available for public viewing and can be seen online at (Official website ) www.redavantgarde.com. Posters are divided by artists, themes and topics, historical periods, places of publications, printing techniques, styles and series (e.g. The Fighting Pencil, TASS Windows etc.).
